9th Degree Black Belt
Executive Director
TaeKwon-Do International

Grandmaster Mark Nathanson is a ninth degree black belt who is the only student of Grandmaster Suk Jun Kim to begin with him as a white belt, and graduate through the ranks until reaching the ultimate rank he holds today. He began his training with GM Kim in 1974 in a small school in Bergenfield New Jersey, and GM Kim has judged every test that GM Nathanson has ever taken for belt promotion.

During his college years, GM Nathanson was the captain of the Ohio State University Taekwon Do team for all four years. During those years he competed in the Ohio championships, as well as going to Nationals representing the state of Ohio. He also participated in the collegiate Taekwon Do championships representing OSU.

After college, GM Nathanson continued to participate in tournaments. These competitions were a combination of multiple types of national competitions, which included, ITF, WTF, AAU, USTU, and open tournaments involving combinations of stop matches, and continuous matches. This vast array of competitions has allowed GM Nathanson to grow as a competitor and a  martial artist.

He has continued to follow GM Kim throughout the years, training in his schools in New York City, as well as training and teaching in the many sister schools of TKDI, and is a regular presence at Glen Ridge Taekwon Do of Montclair NJ.

GM Nathanson is a physician/podiatrist who works with The Orthopedic Specialists of New Jersey of Hackensack University Medical Center, working as their foot and ankle specialist.

He is married to Emma (also a black belt), and resides in New Jersey with his son Samuel, and daughters, Maya and Hannah.

GM Nathanson is honored to hold the position of Executive Director with TKDI, and will dedicate himself to the growth and improvement of the union.
