Grandmaster Welsh has been practicing and teaching Taekwon-do since the mid sixties. In the 1970's, his life’s path afforded him the opportunity to meet and train under the Founder of Taekwon-do, Gen. Choi Hong Hi. It was during this time that he met Grandmaster Kim Suk Jun who has been his teacher and inspiration since 1976.
In the mid seventies, General Choi requested the assistance of Master Welsh in the formation of a Taekwon-do organization for the United States. The emphasizes of this organization was placed on the traditional values of discipline, practice, hard work, focus and integrity. It was chartered in 1984 by Gen. Choi Hong Hi, with the guidance of Master Kim.
The last request by the Founder of Taekwon-do to Master Welsh was to continue the work being accomplished and spreading of traditional values of Taekwon-do. Today, Taekwon-do International is the means of accomplishing this work.
In his 40+ years of practice, Master Welsh has traveled extensively has many accomplishments and has enjoyed great success in spreading Taekwon-do. Some of his more notable achievements include:
1980: Formation of a Taekwon-do organization for the United States and elected President.
1981: Granted International instructor, Class “A” umpire.
1984: Charter was granted for the Taekwon-do organization by the Founder of Taekwon-do. Master Welsh was elected a Director for the International Taekwon-do Federation.
2004: Executive Vice President of Taekwon-Do International. Master Welsh is continuing to spread the teaching of Taekwon-do under the Charter granted for accomplishment of this mission by Gen. Choi Hong Hi, beloved founder of Taekwon-do.
Theses are just a few accomplishments in the spreading of the true values of Taekwon-do. "Accomplishments are only another day in Taekwon-do."
The true value of a Taekwon-do instructor is not in how many accomplishments or how well they can perform but in how well they can help others Achieve life’s goals and share in the values of Taekwon-do.
